This stunning Bugatti concept will blow your mind

Jaw-dropping concept modernizes classic lines of the Aerolithe, the most beautiful and rare Bugatti to ever exist

This jaw-dropping 2025 Bugatti Aerolithe concept by auto designer Douglas Hogg is special for a few reasons.

The first reason is that it revives the Aerolithe name, which adorns the most beautiful, rare and exotic Bugatti to ever exist.

The second reason is that it is just so impossibly beautiful. This 2025 concept modernizes the graceful and elegant lines of the classic 1935 Aerolithe (it even uses the same crème de menthe colour in some renders) while giving it a distinctly futuristic and dramatic supercar look. It even keeps a version of the Aerolithe's famous rivet line that splits the car in half length-wise.

First, a little history about the original Aerolithe. David Grainger, one of our Driving contributors, is famous around the world and in restoration circles for taking on a seemingly impossible job: To restore/recreate the original Type 57 1935 Bugatti Aerolite Concept , which is an extremely arduous task because so little information about this very special car is available. It was also the only one of its kind to ever exist; It was a one-off concept car that debuted at the 1935 Paris Motor Show and what happened to it afterwards remains one of the greatest automotive mysteries in history.

After a few long years of work, Grainger's restoration garage, The Guild of Automotive Restorers , recently wrapped up its restoration for a secret client, reportedly in the Middle East. The project and stunning end result has even gotten the attention of Jay Leno (watch Leno's interview with Grainger below) and has won many prestigious concours awards.

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

One reason why Grainger's restoration was so difficult and labour-intensive (besides there being essentially no information about how it was built) was that his goal was to make it as accurate as possible and with the same techniques to the 1935 model, as its creator, Ettore Bugatti, intended. The 1935 model's body was made using aeronautical-grade magnesium alloy, a material that is notoriously difficult to work with.

Douglas Hogg 's render doesn't specify what material he was imagining, but we predict it would use carbon fibre reinforced plastic. CFRP didn't exist in the 1930s, so using CFRP would be the logical move, seeing as it's the standard for hybrid supercars today: It's super strong and ultra light. Oh yeah, this 2025 Aerolithe concept is a hybrid supercar (powered by a microturbine electric engine/battery that hasn't even been invented yet), not unlike the Porsche 918 , McLaren P1 and the LaFerrari, which are also hybrids. Hogg says the Aerolithe will have a theoretical range of 800 miles (1,287 km) on one tank of fuel.

Hogg, who designed this dramatic Bugatti as a student but now apparently works for Ford Motor Company, imagines the 2025 Aerolithe will cost upwards of $1.6-million, although we'd predict it would be even higher than that. Hogg says the supercar will output 450 horsepower and a remarkable 1,500 pound-feet of torque and rocket from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in an astounding 2.7 seconds. Hogg predicts the Aerolithe will top out at upwards of 220 mph (354 km/h) and take 10.5 seconds to do a quarter-mile run. The concept also does away with such over-rated niceties as side mirrors and door handles because they would interrupt the car's graceful lines.

Grainger, who knows Hogg, says the 2025 Aerolithe "is a pretty thing" and hoped that someone would want one so that his shop could build it for them.

"I did like the overall look, however I did comment to Douglas that there were a couple of the original features of the Aerolithe that he should have used to cement the evolution. The main item was the riveted seams on the original fenders and spine," Grainger said in an email.

We're also hoping someone out there has the means to afford such an incredible, achingly beautiful and exotic build, because this concept is too exquisite to be lost to time like the car that inspired it.
